This body of work explores the relationship between color, form and function. The purpose of this experiment was to explore my own technical abilities as a ceramicist, utilizing common forms that are engineered to function as utilitarian, simulating a color pallet inspired by Homer Laughlin’s original Fiestaware.

Each form follows a simple and slightly altered wheel-thrown shape common in both production and hand-made ceramics. They are unique only by the fact that I produced them.

The utility of each form should compliment the food or drink it is intended to contain. It should also feel comfortable to hold.

The mix of color seen throughout this portfolio is a result of a single base glaze and various combinations of Mason Stains applied to ‘Nara’ porcelain and fired to cone 6 oxidation. The result is a color pallet inspired by Homer Laughlin’s original Fiestaware.
